In March 2022, I travelled to Portugal to meet the Amorim Group, the world’s leading producer of cork and cork stoppers, and to share my experiences – some of them quite dreadful – regarding the opening of fine wines in our cellars: cork taint, of course, but above all the inconsistencies from one bottle to the next, or the insidious retroactive cork taint. How can we resolve these issues, which are a source of frustration for serious wine lovers and distributors committed to quality? The visit proved to be fascinating and full of discoveries. This material has exceptional qualities. How can one not be struck, amidst the current summer news of forest fires, by the fact that cork oak forests do not burn? Or that cork does not allow any odours to pass through and is even more airtight than a technical cork.
Today, Mr Antonio Amorim, the fourth generation of the Amorim family at the helm of the world’s leading cork production group, has returned as our guest and honours us with his presence for this eleventh edition.
